1st version refection

After editing and watching the 1st version this is my reflection on what I thought we managed to do well and what wasn't as effective as we hoped. I feel that our product currently tries to tell a long story in a short amount of time which is not possible effectively. There are too many locations and details revealed and due to this it has to end abruptly as we are over the time limit. For example, the last clip which reveals the death of Red is unnecessary as it communicates what will happen in the whole movie if it was to be created. There are sections of the sound that need volume adjustments as they are going over the dialogue and making it difficult to follow the storyline. The pace of editing is good as it starts slow and as the opening continues and suspense builds the editing speeds up. There is currently no additional colour on the first draft so adding it can only make the production more vivid and catch more attention.

Feedback to 1st draft

   1) What sort of audience do you think it would attract? The first question feedback highlighted that we managed to target our audience of adolescences and up to the age of 25. Is it identifiable as a thriller? What subgenre? This shows that we achieved what was stated in the brief to make a thriller opening. What age rating do you think it should be? We were targeting a 15 rating and the answer to the question shows this. Do you think the music works well with the chosen genre? The feedback showed us that our music choice was good so we decided to stay with that for our final version. Does the pace of the film complement the genre? Feedback suggests the pace was slow at the start which is what we were aiming for to give an eerie feeling and then it picked up towards the end to create suspense. Does it feel like a film opening? The answer is suggest it does however when we watched it for a second and third time we decided that the end was showing too much and it was almost

This stage of the process required us to input the titles for the opening. We found a font which is conventional and brings mystery to our opening. We decided the font should fade in and out as it does in Skyfall and many other thrillers which makes it conventional. At this point we had to decide which titles to use and how long they should last for. This is also essential as it keeps the work conventional as that is what our research process was for. We are currently looking at getting a first draft finished by the end of the week which should allow us to get feedback and decide on what is and isn't working within our opening.

Reshoot information

Time Schedule We decided to reshoot the film on the 16th of May. From 4pm-10pm. We discussed to reshoot on snapchat by brain storming ideas and coming to a conclusion that a reshoot was needed. Why we decided to reshoot We had all our clips from our first shoot and when we watched it back the pacing was off. It was too quick for the theme we had in mind. We also didn't include enough detail in our shoot and we didn't have varied shots. We decided on snapchat that a reshoot was needed to get the better marks What we did At Oli's House(Milo's house) We added more details to her entering the house, we also changed how she went up stairs and how she found the knives. We finally added a phone call conversation between her and red which added more depth to the story.  Reflection on the shoot The scenes that we filmed worked out perfectly. I filmed most of the indoor scenes at Milo's house providing camera shots and angles. The mirror shots were my favourite part of the

Soundtrack analysis

We decided that non-diegetic sound should be used throughout as it aids in adding suspense to the storyline. This was something that we saw in Baby Driver and decided that it was necessary as we didn't have enough foreshadowing to create suspense. The audio we used was through the audio tab in Premiere pro where we spent 1 hour looking through and deciding which was the best option to convey the emotions in our opening.  We decided to use 2 different backing songs which had no words: Heavy rain In the lab This was because we didn't want the words to take away from the diegetic sound within the opening. There is a change  in sound as she picks up the knife which highlights the importance of this moment for the narrative. We were happy with the choices of non-diegetic sound as we feel that it doesn't take away from the storyline but only adds suspense.
